Design

The Zebra Sarasa Grand is the metal-bodied version of the Sarasa gel pen: same quick-writing gel ink and slim profile as the plastic Sarasa Clip, but with a weighted lacquered barrel that sits steadier on the page. For Vol. 2 of Zebra's Moomin collaboration, released in Japan on 15 June 2026 in limited quantities, four Moomin characters are printed as gold line art on a white barrel, and each design carries its own ink colour.

The four designs are Nyoro Nyoro (black ink), Snufkin (green black), Moomin (blue grey) and Little My (cassis black). Because the barrel is white and the artwork is thin gold line work, these read as desk stationery rather than a loud character pen — the print stays subtle in person and does not dominate a page when the pen is clipped to a notebook.

Specifications

  • Model: Sarasa Grand 0.5 (JJ57 series), Moomin Vol. 2 limited edition — part numbers P-JJ57-MM2-MTBK / -VGB / -VBGR / -VCB
  • Mechanism: retractable knock-type gel ink ballpoint pen
  • Tip size: 0.5 mm
  • Ink: water-based gel pigment, water-resistant; black, green black, blue grey or cassis black depending on the design
  • Barrel: metal, white coating with gold line printing
  • Refill: Zebra JF-0.5, replaceable
  • Released in Japan: 15 June 2026, limited quantities

A few things the photos do not show: the white coating picks up scuffs along the clip edge with daily pocket carry, the ink is water-resistant but still needs a moment to dry on coated paper, and because this was a limited run Zebra has not committed to a restock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What refill does the Zebra Sarasa Grand use?

A: The Sarasa Grand 0.5 takes Zebra's JF-0.5 gel refill. It is the same refill family used across the Sarasa Grand line, so any JF-0.5 colour fits this limited-edition body.

Q: Is this Sarasa Grand Moomin a limited edition?

A: Yes. Zebra released the Moomin Vol. 2 designs in Japan on 15 June 2026 as a limited-quantity run, and the package carries a Limited Edition mark. Restock is not guaranteed once the run sells through.

Q: What does the JJ57 model number mean?

A: JJ57 is Zebra's internal code for the Sarasa Grand 0.5 body. This edition adds MM2 for Moomin Vol. 2, followed by the ink colour code: MTBK for black, VGB for green black, VBGR for blue grey and VCB for cassis black.

Q: How is the Sarasa Grand different from the Sarasa Clip?

A: Both are 0.5 mm gel pens from the same Sarasa ink family. The Grand uses a metal barrel, which adds weight and steadies the line, while the Clip is a lighter plastic body with a spring clip. The Grand is the one to pick if you write for long stretches and want the pen to feel less twitchy.

Q: Can I change the ink colour on any of the four designs?

A: Yes. All four barrels accept the same JF-0.5 refill, so the ink colour can be swapped without buying another pen — the design on the barrel stays the same.
