Design & Size

The Pocket Diary is the small 2027 planner in MIDORI's line-up: a book that lives in a jacket pocket or a tote bag rather than on a desk, and that still gives you a month view, a week view and somewhere to write the things that do not fit into either. The format is a monthly block first, then weekly spreads with the week on the left page and open space on the right, so each spread holds both the schedule and the notes that belong to it.

Two sizes, three covers

The series runs in two page sizes and three illustrated covers, each drawn by a different Japanese illustrator. The cover you pick changes nothing about the pages inside, only the feeling of carrying the book.

  • A6, dog design (22442006): H152 x W112 x D10 mm, illustrated by Natsumi Teraoka
  • A6, cat design (22443006): H152 x W112 x D10 mm, illustrated by Sayo Koizumi
  • B6, dog design (22448006): H175 x W123 x D12 mm, monthly block plus weekly left pages

How a week is laid out

Weekly pages are built as a left-hand block with the seven days stacked in writing order and a free column on the right. That free space is the point of the layout: appointments go into the day rows, while the tasks, shopping lists and one-line notes for the same week sit beside them instead of being pushed onto a separate memo page you will not open. Monthly pages come first as a block calendar, which makes it easy to mark trips, exam weeks or deadlines before you turn to the weeks in detail.

Paper and binding

Pages are bound by thread rather than glued, so the book opens close to flat on a table and stays open while you write with one hand. The paper is MIDORI's own writing paper stock, chosen for pencil and gel ink: it takes pressure well and does not feather under a fine 0.5 mm nib.

What to know before you buy

  • The calendar is dated for 2027 only. It is not an undated notebook and it does not contain a 2028 section.
  • The cover is printed paper wrapped over board, not leather. Sliding it in and out of a bag will eventually soften the corners.
  • There is no pen loop, elastic band or pocket at the back. Plan on carrying a pen separately.
  • Weekly pages are laid out with a fixed seven-day grid, so this is not a page-a-day or bullet-style notebook.

More from the same brand

This planner sits in the MIDORI collection together with the rest of the line-up, and alongside other planners and daily diaries and the journaling supplies we keep in stock. If you prefer a cloth cover, the Book Style Diary 2027 uses the same week grid, and the 5 Year Diary Gate Mini is the version for people who would rather write two lines a day than draw a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the A6 and the B6 Pocket Diary?

A: Only the page size and a small amount of page count. The A6 book measures H152 x W112 x D10 mm and the B6 measures H175 x W123 x D12 mm. Both hold a monthly block followed by weekly spreads with the same left-week, right-notes layout, so pick A6 if it has to fit a pocket and B6 if you write larger or want more room in the notes column.

Q: Does it contain both monthly and weekly pages?

A: Yes. The book opens with block monthly calendars, then moves into weekly spreads. The B6 version is described by MIDORI as a monthly block plus weekly left layout, which means the weekly pages keep the notes column on the right-hand side of each spread.

Q: How tall is the A6 planner in inches?

A: The A6 body is 152 mm tall, 112 mm wide and 10 mm thick, which is close to 6.0 x 4.4 x 0.4 inches. That is small enough for a coat pocket and roughly the height of a standard passport holder.

Q: Is this a 2027 planner only?

A: Yes. Every page is dated for 2027. There is no undated section and no 2028 calendar, so the book is meant to be used through one year and then replaced.

Q: What kind of paper does MIDORI use in its diaries?

A: MIDORI prints its diaries on its own writing paper rather than a generic notebook stock. In practice that means a smooth surface that holds pencil, ballpoint and gel ink without feathering, and enough opacity that writing on one side does not show through badly on the other.

Q: Does the planner lie flat when open?

A: It opens close to flat because the pages are thread-bound instead of glued at the spine. On a desk you can leave it open on the current week and write in it without holding the pages down.
