Animal

Peronimal is Sun-Star's animal pen series: each figure is a small dog or cat with a 0.5 mm gel-ink pen hidden inside. Pull the animal's tongue and the tip slides out of its mouth; let go and the tip retreats again, so there is no cap to lose and no ink mark waiting in your pencil case.

One mechanism, five animals

The trick is the same on every Peronimal: the tongue doubles as the slider. Pull it forward, write, then push it back and the nib sits behind the animal's lips. What changes between the figures is the character — the French Bulldog is the compact, heavy-browed classic, the Shiba Inu has the folded ears and curled tail silhouette, the Schnauzer carries the longest muzzle of the group, The Dog is the floppy-eared beige one, and the Exotic Shorthair is the flat-faced cat with wide-set eyes. All five use the same black gel ink and the same tip, so the choice is purely which face you want on your desk.

Sizes and materials above follow Sun-Star's own product page for the Peronimal pen. The two larger figures are wider at the head, not longer in the barrel, so both groups write at the same angle.

Writing with it day to day

A 0.5 mm gel tip is the everyday width most people already use for notes, planners and journaling: fine enough for small handwriting, dark enough to read back at a glance. Because the pen has no separate cap, the pull-tongue action is the only thing you open — useful when you are holding a notebook in one hand. The figures are light enough to clip nothing down and take up the corner of a pencil case rather than a full slot.

Good to know before you order

  • No retail packaging is included; the pen ships as the figure itself, which matters if you are buying it as a gift and want a box.
  • The ears and tongue are TPR, a soft rubbery plastic. They cope with normal use but are not designed to be chewed or bent back repeatedly.
  • Sun-Star does not list a refill for this line, so treat each Peronimal as a single pen.
  • Because the tip retracts behind the animal's mouth, the pen is safe to drop loose into a case — but the soft tongue can collect lint from a bag, so a quick wipe now and then keeps it moving smoothly.

Where it fits

Peronimal pens are desk decorations that write, so they work best where the pen is also on show: planner desks, study setups, gift swaps and journaling kits. If you write long sessions, pair one with a heavier everyday pen; the Peronimal is the one you reach for when a note only needs a line or two.

Keep exploring

This series lives in our pens collection and the wider Sun-Star range, and because Peronimal is a gel writer it also sits with our gel pens and rollerball pens. Two things that pair naturally with it: the Sun-Star cassette tape cutter if you tape receipts and stickers into a journal, and the Sodateru animal erasers — the same idea of a small animal doing a practical job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a Peronimal pen?

A: It is a Sun-Star pen built into an animal figure. You pull the animal's tongue to slide the 0.5 mm gel-ink tip out, and the tip retracts when you let go, so there is no cap to lose.

Q: What tip size and ink does it use?

A: A 0.5 mm ball with black gel ink, as listed on Sun-Star's product page for this series.

Q: Which animals are available here?

A: Five in this listing: French Bulldog, Shiba Inu, Schnauzer, The Dog and Exotic Shorthair. Sun-Star also makes Kuro Neko, Mike Neko and Yume Neko versions of the same pen.

Q: How big is one pen and how much does it weigh?

A: The French Bulldog, Shiba Inu and Exotic Shorthair measure W20 × H156 × D15 mm; the Schnauzer and The Dog measure W29 × H157 × D15 mm. All of them weigh about 8 g.

Q: What is it made of?

A: An ABS body with TPR for the soft ears and tongue, made in China.

Q: Does it come with packaging or a refill?

A: Neither. Sun-Star supplies the pen without packaging, and no refill is listed for the Peronimal line, so each one is a complete single pen.
